Tracy and the Nichols Enterprises team finished up a tough 2006 season tonight.  With 57 entries, Tracy was able to run 3rd in his heat race.  Tracy started and finished in the 2nd spot in the B Main to find a spot in the A Main, where he would start 24th.  Tracy was only able to move up to 18th, but twice had passes negated by caution flags.

Tracy started 5th in the heat race but grinded the teeth off of his gears and did not finish.  After starting 18th in the A Main, Tracy was able to move up into 11th.

Lake Ozark Speedway
For the second night in a row, the field was over 60 strong.  Tracy drew better tonight and started 4th in his heat – where he would go on to finish 3rd.  This put Tracy in the 18th starting position.  The car wasn’t too bad, but the leaders made there way to the tail of the field and put cars a lap down early.  Shortly after we were put a lap down the caution came out.  This ended any chance we had of moving up through the field.

Lake Ozark Speedway
With a field of 62 cars, Tracy ran 4th in his heat race after starting 6th.  Nichols started 3rd in the B Main and went on to win it.  Tracy started 19th and moved to just outside the top 10 when the handling went away, causing him to fall back to 17th.

State Fair Speedway
Nichols started 4th and ran 3rd in his heat race.  After starting 12th in the A Main, Tracy was able to move up to 8th in the late stages of the race.

Lake Ozark Speedway
Tracy started 8th in his heat and moved up to finish 5th.  Tracy started 4th in the B Main and the car that started in front of him got sideways on the start.  As Tracy tried to go underneath the two made contact, flattening Tracy’s right rear tire.  Terry and I (along with the help of Steve Cain, Brandon Imhoff, and Danny Crane) got the rear tires changed and got Tracy back out before the drop of the green.  After restarting 12th, Nichols got back up to finish 5th, missing the A Main by one position.

I-44 speedway
Tracy started 9th in his heat and got a great jump on the start.  Unfortunately a caution came out to negate the start.  On the restart, we got a bad jump.  As the cars got strung out, Nichols was only able to move up to 7th.  In the B-Main, Tracy finished 4th and transferred into the “A” from the 6th starting position.  Tracy ran a solid A Main and missed a top 10 by one position.

Bolivar Speedway
Tracy ran 2nd in the heat race.  We were running in the top 5 when his rear-end broke.  It has been rough month for Team 19.  Tracy had an average finish in A Mains of 6th place before this rough stretch of 5 races where his average finish has been 13th.

Lake Ozark Speedway
The team headed to Lake Ozark Speedway tonight with high hopes, as the team has experienced a lot of good runs (including a win) over the last season and a half.  Tracy drew a high number and had to start in the back.  The problem with this is that the track was dusty in hot laps (seem like they forgot to water it).  Short story even shorter, Tracy started 6th in his heat and finished 5th;  he started the B Main 2nd and finished 2nd;  then he started the A Main from the tail and drove up to 14th.

24 Raceway
Tracy started his heat on the pole and led wire to wire to claim the win.  This enabled him to start 2nd in the feature.  Tracy followed Randy early in the event as both were utilizing the high side.  A handful of laps into the race, the high groove went away and Hull and Fox slipped by them using the bottom groove.  The track became it’s traditional train around the bottom and Tracy finished 4th.

State Fair Speedway
Tracy started 2nd in his heat and fell back to finish 4th.  Tracy started the feature 24th and would survive the race to finish 14th.  Despite moving up 10 spots, the car just did not have forward bite all night long, a problem that team 19 has been dealing with most of the season.  The team will not make the ASCS/WOW race in Bolivar this Friday while they prepare the backup car for the race at Moberly on July 15.

Lake Ozark Speedway
Tracy started his heat 8th and was only able to move up two spots.  This fell short of transferring into the A main so he had to run the B main.  Tracy won it from the 4th starting position.  Nichols started the A main from the rear and would run 14th, only his second finish outside the top 10 all year.

State Fair Speedway
Tracy started 4th in his heat race and followed Randy Martin to the tune of a 2nd place finish.  After lining up 5th in the feature, Tracy fell back to 10th with a badly loose car.  In the closing laps, Tracy was able to find a groove that worked better for the #19 and drove back up to 7th.

For the second night in a row Tracy started on the pole in his heat.  He led the first couple of laps before being overtaken by Toby Brown.  A couple of laps later Tracy returned the favor and went on to win the heat by nearly a straightaway.  Nichols would start the feature in the third position.  Tracy was tight into the turns and lost a couple positions early.  Tracy would finish 5th for the second night in a row.

We started off the night by lining up first in our heat race.  Tracy led the first 4 laps but the bottom groove went away and he fell back 2 spots the finish third.  Tracy started the feature 9th and methodically worked his way up to 5th place utilizing the high groove, coming a car length short of taking the 4th spot.

May 28, 2006
Double X Speedway
Tracy started 5th in his heat and was able to pass a couple of cars to finish 3rd.  After starting the feature 10th, Tracy utilized the middle groove to move up to finish 6th.

Tonight was the first trip of the year to the tire-eating track we call Moberly.  Tracy started dead last in his 10 car heat race.  Tracy was able to pass half the cars to finish 5th and transfer into the feature.  Tracy started 13th and wasn’t going anywhere in the early going.  Terry made some adjustments and made the car better during a mid race red flag.  Tracy was able to work his way up to a respectable 9th place finish.

Lake Ozark Speedway
Tonight was the first trip of the year to Lake Ozark Speedway.  Tracy started 6th in his heat race and charged his way up to finish 2nd.  This gave him the 8th starting position in the feature.  By lap 8, Nichols worked his way into the 4th position.  Nichols would get by Eric Jobe a couple of laps later and then by Boyer on lap 13 to grab the runner-up spot.  Tracy was slowly closing on Stanley for the lead but ran out of time and was unable to mount a serious challenge.  He would have to settle for 2nd place in the 38 car field.

May 5, 2006
Bolivar Speedway
We started 3rd in our heat race but the outside lane got the jump and we fell back to 5th at the start.  The track was real heavy so it was follow the leader.  We finished 5th in the heat and transferred into the A Main.  After two rain delays, we started the A Main 14th.  The track’s crew did a great job getting the track safe and smooth, but it was very heavy.  This means that passing was at a premium.  Tracy methodically moved up to 10th until the last lap when cars got bottled up badly in front of him and he checked up, falling back two positions in the process.

April 23, 2006
State Fair Speedway
Tracy lined up on the pole for his heat race and drove away from the field after taking the lead in turn 1 on the first lap.  Nichols would win by 1.5 seconds over Terry Hinck.  Tracy lined up on the outside of the front row in the A main. At the drop of the green, Tracy settled in 2nd place behind Brian brown, where he’d stay for a few laps, before Randy Martin made his way by him.  Tracy spent the next several laps comfortably in 3rd place.  After a red flag on lap 14, Tracy lost his 15 car length advantage over the 4th place sprinter.  A couple laps after the restart, Brandon Gray moved into the 4th spot and started running down Nichols.  With 3 laps to go, Gray was able to get inside of Tracy in turn 3.  Tracy was able to hold his own and fight off Gray for the last few laps in a loose car to finish 3rd.

LA Raceway
After a disastrous start to the year, Tracy looked to get things headed back in the right direction in tonight’s WOW season opener.  Tracy started 4th in his heat, but maneuvered his way to the front to win his heat race by half a straightaway.  As a result, the Pro Powder Coating #19 started the A Main on the pole.  That didn’t last long, however, with heavy hitters like Toby Brown, Jesse Hockett, and Brian Brown all starting in the top 2 rows as well.  Tracy spent the majority of the race comfortably in 4th place.  After a late race caution, the field would be bunched up for a restart.  On the final lap Tracy drove the car too deep into turn 3 and slipped up the racetrack, enabling Randy Martin to drive underneath him.  After Oklahoma, the team was pleased with a top 5 run, but by no means satisfied.

We embarked upon the eight-hour drive to Oklahoma City just wanting to shake off the rust, because we have not raced since September.  We started our heat race 2nd and ran 2nd to Chuck Swenson.  We started our qualifier 4th and were about to make a pass for 2nd when JP Bailey slowed suddenly in front of us.  Tracy had no where to go and jumped his wheels, causing him to flip several times.  Nichols was not injured, but the car was junk.  We loaded up and headed home Saturday morning.  We have a few weeks off before the WOW opener in mid-April and Tracy and Terry are going to need the time to get the car back together.
